Check SMTP Settings before You Travel September 6, 2011

Simple mail transfer protocol or SMTP is the widely used standard for sending emails via internet. It is a text based protocol that is easy to use and maintain. Network administrators require a detailed knowledge of this protocol. smtp settings enable the sending of email while POP3 settings are required to receive them. A unique SMTP and POP3 setting is required by each email provider. Although most settings work universally, some cannot be accessed outside the network. Changing the mail settings is required when the present mail service prevents access from locations outside the network. In such case, a temporary mail service that has access to the network has to be set. If the default mail service works universally, then the settings do not have to be changed. It is fairly easy to change settings and it depends on the email software. Microsoft outlook express, Netscape communicator, Netscape navigator and Eudora are some commonly used email software.
